Heart of Music

How many of you absolutely L-O-V-E music? I do. Music is the biggest form of art, and has always been. But have you noticed that the main music today is Rap and Hip-Hop? Do you know why that is? Because they talk about what you want, but there's no heart in their music! Heart. That's the center of inspirational music. I'm not saying that Christian music is the only music with heart, cause there are non-Christian bands that have heart in their music. A few examples are Rise Against, HIM, Evanescence, Zac Brown Band, etc. You might be wondering, what exactly IS heart? Heart doesn't come from the lyrics you sing, it comes from how you feel. If you want a song about love, don't make it up out of the blue, look inside you. If you want to write a song with Heart, you need to look inside at how you feel. Sadness, Love, Joy, Pain, these are just 4 of the hundreds of kinds of Heart. Look at these lyrics to "Monster" by Skillet:

The secret side of me, I never let you see
I keep it caged but I can't control it
So stay away from me, the beast is ugly
I feel the rage and I just can't hold it

It's scratching on the walls, in the closet, in the halls
It comes awake and I can't control it
Hiding under the bed, in my body, in my head
Why won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster

I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster

My secret side I keep hid under lock and key
I keep it caged but I can't control it
'Cause if I let him out he'll tear me up, break me down
Why won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster

It's hiding in the dark, it's teeth are razor sharp
There's no escape for me, it wants my soul, it wants my heart
No one can hear me scream, maybe it's just a dream
Maybe it's inside of me, stop this monster

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I've gotta lose control, he something radical
I must confess that I feel like a monster

I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster

This song has Heart, a Heart known as Regret. This song was written for 2 reasons, but the reason with the Heart of Regret, if that the Monster is his mistakes he has made.

This is a video of a song by DC Talk called "Colored People," do you know what kind of heart is in this song? It's Respect. This song respects others colors, and is trying to bring people together. Music is the most inspirational and influential thing out there, and most Rap and Hip-Hop give a False Heart called Deception. The reason its a False Heart is because of what it's teaching people. The main thing you find in Rap and Hip-Hop is Sex, Drugs, and Violence. Music that talks about that has False Heart. The Heart doesn't depend on the Lyrics, it depends on the person who wrote it. You can change a few words in a song, and try to change the Heart, but you would fail with that, because the original Heart never leaves it. The original heart is the heart of the person who originally wrote the song. This blog is about the Heart of music, but I think that I also helped with learning how to write a good song. Don't get me wrong, there are Rap and Hip-Hop that have a True Heart in them, but that's rare to find these days. Here's a song that I wrote, it's a Goth Metal song, and its for a girl to sing, but I made it with the Heart called Love, and if you read the lyrics carefully, you can find that heart easily:

Follow You

Something's wrong
Everything's changed
You're not here
I hear your cry

Not everyone
will come to you
But wait right there
I'm here for you

I will survive
I will hear your cry
I'll walk to you
And follow you till

I die

I see you lying there
I hear your voice
Even when the others don't

And I
will
find you again
I can follow your footprints
easily

I will survive
Un-Until I hear your cry
I'll run to you
And follow you to
The
The grave

I see your face
I see your eyes
They're cold and dark
But still so bright

I have not survived
I heard your cry
I ran to you
And followed you
Into
The light

Did you see the Heart in this song? A person who would follow their love right into the grave just to be with them. This song has a Love Heart and is also like a Love Story. Songs tell stories as well as messages of how the writer feels. The way the song is played means nothing to what the Heart/Story is. A Heavy Metal song sounds like its Satanic and Evil, right? WRONG! There are Satanic Heavy Metal bands, but that doesn't make all Heavy Metal bands Satanic. As I Lay Dying is a Christian Heavy Metal band, using the Heart's of Pain and Love in their songs. Look up their songs, and the lyrics to their songs. Even look up interviews about the songs if you can find it, and see why the song was made, and what it talks about. Their song "Nothing Left" talks about the Decay of society. I'm going to end here because I've already written allot.

God Bless You,
Dustin
